Exhibition & Fashion show
The Design exhibition will be a showcase of how design ideas are cultivated into user centered, effective design solutions. Product Design, Fashion & Lifestyle Design, Media & Communication Design and Sri Lankan Crafts will be the themes on display. The Sri Lankan Craft section is part of the ‘Culture Code’; a project incepted in 2012 by the Department of Integrated Design on ‘Adjoining traditional crafting’ in Sri Lanka. An international exhibition space dedicated to capture the importance of the integration of design ideas will be allocated significantly within the arena.
With collections ranging from Avant Garde to Ready- to- Wear, the fashion show is aimed to challenge perceptions surrounding the fashion design process. The show will be a collaboration with Design Development Cooperation.
Design Awards & Competitions
This segment of SLDC- Design Week 2018 is the place where deserving designers will be appreciated and applauded. Our objective is to identify passionate design practitioners in both industry and academia as key contributors of the design disciplines and by whose advocacy design has gained an influential role in Sri Lanka.
There will be several awards presented within the week starting with the ‘Sri Lanka Design Awards 2018’. These series of awards will be presented to winners of a design competition among students, where they will be adjudicated upon their approach to creativity and functionality in solving design problems.
To be part of this competition please refer to the bottom of the main page: ‘ Sri Lanka Design Awards and Competition’.
Two further awards, one in felicitation of a lifetime of dedication to design and an artisan award to recognize outstanding crafting skill will also be presented.
Commercial & Interactive Space
Contributions to the knowledge and practice of design can only be appreciated when it is shared. This space is dedicated just for that and feature live studio activities and interactive installations open to public throughout the week.
A special space will also be provided to select designers to showcase their brand/ company or designed products. Our aim is to appreciate the efforts of these individuals in raising the creative and entrepreneurial standards of design in Sri Lanka and to encourage further ventures within the design field.
